HEREDITY OF THE Rh BLOOD TYPES

Alexander S. Wiener M.D.1, Eve B. Sonn 1, and Ruth B. Belkin 1

1 From the Serological Laboratory of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York, and the Blood Transfusion Division of the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn, New York

Data are presented concerning the Rh blood types in 97 families with 275 children and in 135 mother-child combinations. The results obtained are in complete agreement with the theory of six allelic genes. When the theory is tested by applying the chi square and gene frequency methods to data on the distribution of the Rh types in the population, the agreement is also satisfactory.

The practical implications of the findings are discussed.
