PRESENCE OF TWO TYPES OF L POLYPEPTIDE CHAINS IN GUINEA PIG 7S IMMUNOGLOBULINS

Victor Nussenzweig M.D.1, Michael E. Lamm M.D.1, and Baruj Benacerraf M.D.1

1 From the Department of Pathology, New York University School of Medicine, New York

Guinea pig 7S immunoglobulins (gamma1 and gamma2) consist of two groups of molecules (K and L) bearing different types of L chains (kappa and lambda). Approximately one-third of the molecules in normal guinea pig gamma2-globulin bear the lambda- type of L chains, and all or most of the others bear kappa-chains. kappa- and lambda-chains have similar molecular weights.
